Erin & Guerin’s Modern Glitz & Glam Wedding

Not only do this lovely couple’s first names look very similar, but they also both share the same last name—Smith. Yes, even before they were wed! So, I’m sure you can already tell this couple is nothing short of special.

Erin and Guerin exchanged their vows at Country Club Christian Church, celebrated with a sparkler send-off, and hopped on the party bus with their wedding party to dance the night away alongside guests at their reception—which was hosted at none other than Pennway Place at Studio Dan Meiners.

It’s hard to pick just a few of the most memorable details from their unforgettable day. Some of our favorites, however, include a live Chinese food station that gave off the feel of being at a Japanese steakhouse, modern glitz and glam décor created by the reception venue’s seriously talented design and floral staff, dance floor flip flops and fun props gifted by the bride and groom to keep friends and family having fun all night long, and, of course, the late night Waldo Pizza. It was a complete surprise for everyone that was sure to be enjoyed!

But, we won’t give too much away as bride Erin shares everything you want and need to know about her and her husband’s modern, yet glamorous wedding filled with love! We hope you enjoy reading, and many thanks goes out to Erin Kata Photography for sharing some simply stunning moments with us.

How did you two meet? How did he pop the question? Tell us your love story.

We met at Westport on the 4th of July in 2014. We continued to date while Guerin was in medical school at KU and then he found out he would be completing his 5-year surgical residency program in Louisville, KY. So, we made the move. Guerin then proposed on our ski trip in Tahoe, California. I really wanted a wedding in October, so we decided on a 20-month engagement to work out all the details.

Describe your wedding vibe in one sentence: Modern glitz.

Share a few things that helped you along the way with planning a wedding.

TheKnot.com was very, very helpful. I lived by the checklist daily. Also, the places we registered at such as Amazon, Crate & Barrel, and Bed Bath & Beyond were helpful for thank you notes and knowing who bought what if the card was misplaced.

Tell us about some of the songs you used throughout your wedding and why you chose them. We left it up to the DJ for the most part. He knew what he was doing!

Did you have something borrowed, something blue, something old, and something new? If so, do tell! My something borrowed and old was my grandmother's "Cornucopia of Love" harm that my grandfather had made for her. They have both passed away, so it was tied onto my bouquet. My something blue was my garter and something new was everything else I had on—even down to a new perfume!

Your best practical advice to a soon-to-be bride. Download The Knot’s Wedding Planner App ASAP, get comfortable shoes to wear for dancing at the reception, and, as everyone says...try to enjoy every moment because, before you know it, it's all over and you just want to do it all again!

What’s next for you as a couple? What memories are you looking forward to making together? Last month, we went off to Thailand for a two-week honeymoon. With all of the hustle and bustle that goes on after the wedding, you almost need some time to get home, do laundry, sleep, and catch up. We couldn't have planned a honeymoon in 3 months from now more perfectly. We are also excited to be husband and wife, and start a family.

Let us know one thing that WOWed you while working with McKenzie Phillips.

She spent so much time meeting with us, going over things, emailing us back immediately, and going above and beyond to help us and make sure any of our requests were followed through.
